The Rogue talent tree in WoW Forever combines Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety into a single 53-node tree, the largest node count of any class tree in the beta data. Unlike six other classes, Rogue is not part of Forever's new race and class combinations, so this guide focuses on the tree itself, reasonable builds, and which existing races fit best, all as of beta build 1.60.1.69893.

What changed for the class in Forever

The Rogue moves from three separate Classic-style trees to one connected tree, confirmed directly by the beta data: a single talent_tree row with 53 nodes replaces what used to be three. Blizzard's panel recap frames the overall class pass around "talents and abilities you notice, meaningful trade-offs, and reasons to value what each class brings," and for Rogue the clearest trade-off is that Assassination-style poison talents and Subtlety-style stealth talents now sit on the same tree, so a hybrid build costs real points instead of a full respec. As of beta build 1.60.1.69893, Forever also lets periodic damage crit, which applies to talent #105752 (Serrated Blades) and its Rupture damage bonus, though Blizzard has not published exact numbers for the change.

Talent tree overview

The tree has 53 nodes across seven rows, as of beta build 1.60.1.69893. The left column carries an Assassination identity built around Mutilate and poisons, capped by talent #105712 (Venom, 1 rank, requires Mutilate). The middle column is Combat, running through talent #105740 (Dual Wield Specialization, 5 ranks, requires Precision) and talent #105726 (Weapon Expertise, 2 ranks, requires Blade Flurry), capped by talent #105724 (Adrenaline Rush, 1 rank), which the beta data lists with no formal prerequisite node. The right column is Subtlety, running through talent #105743 (Premeditation, 1 rank) and talent #105745 (Dirty Deeds, 2 ranks), capped by talent #110866 (Thousand Cuts, 1 rank, requires Preparation).

Column Identity Row-6 gate Capstone (row 7)
Left Assassination Mutilate Venom
Middle Combat none listed in the beta data Adrenaline Rush
Right Subtlety Preparation Thousand Cuts

Leveling build

A reasonable leveling build as of beta build 1.60.1.69893 favors Combat for its simple, always-on damage rather than the setup Assassination or Subtlety ask for. Lightning Reflexes (Lightning Reflexes, 5 ranks) raises Dodge for survivability while questing, Improved Sinister Strike (Improved Sinister Strike, 2 ranks) makes your core finisher-builder cheaper, and Endurance (Endurance, 2 ranks) shortens Sprint and Evasion cooldowns, both useful for skipping trash and escaping overpulls. Seal Fate (Seal Fate, 5 ranks) adds bonus combo points on combo-point-generating crits, which speeds up finishing moves during solo grinding.

Dungeon and raid builds

A single-target damage build for raids runs the Assassination side: talent #105722 (Malice, 5 ranks) for critical strike chance with poisons and attacks, talent #105709 (Mutilate, 1 rank) as the core opener, and talent #105719 (Puncturing Wounds, 3 ranks) for extra combo points and crit on Backstab and Mutilate, building up to talent #105712 (Venom) for a finishing move that buffs poison damage and application chance.

A Combat build for dungeons instead centers on talent #105727 (Hack and Slash, 5 ranks) for weapon-type procs and talent #105728 (Blade Flurry, 1 rank) for cleave against multiple targets, useful in trash-heavy dungeon pulls, finishing at talent #105724 (Adrenaline Rush) for a burst Energy regeneration window. The beta data does not indicate which build parses higher in current raid content, so this is a role and target-count choice rather than a proven ranking.

PvP build

Riposte (Riposte, 1 rank, requires Deflection) punishes a parried melee attacker with a disarm, and Heightened Senses (Heightened Senses, 2 ranks) helps you spot stealthed opponents while also reducing your own chance to be hit by spells and ranged attacks. Preparation (Preparation, 1 rank) resets your other cooldowns on demand, which is a strong PvP tool for chaining a second burst or escape after an opening trade. Blade Flurry (Blade Flurry) also has PvP value beyond dungeons, since it lets you punish a target who brings a pet or a second player into the fight.

Rotation and priorities

Classic Rogue rotations, carried over from Classic Era, run on combo points and Energy: build combo points with a builder like Sinister Strike, Backstab, or Mutilate depending on spec, then spend five points on a finishing move such as Eviscerate, Rupture, or Slice and Dice to keep your damage-boosting buff active. Subtlety leans on opening from Stealth with Ambush or Cheap Shot for a free combo point and a stun, while Combat and Assassination both prioritize keeping their signature buff or poison active over raw finisher spam.

What Forever changes: with periodic damage now able to crit, Serrated Blades (Serrated Blades) and Rupture ticks scale with your critical strike chance instead of only your Attack Power, which the Classic-Era rotation priority did not need to account for — worth weighing crit gear slightly higher for a Rupture-heavy Assassination or Subtlety build than a Classic guide would suggest. Seal Fate (Seal Fate) also interacts with this, since more crits from combo-point builders now also means more bonus combo points.

Best races for the class

Rogue is not one of the six new race and class combinations Blizzard announced for Forever, so the class keeps its full Classic Era roster on both factions and adds only the Skyborne, a new neutral race available to Rogue on either side.

Race Faction Note
Undead Horde Original Rogue race, carried over from Classic Era; Will of the Forsaken resists Fear-based CC
Human Alliance Original Rogue race, carried over from Classic Era
Night Elf Alliance Original Rogue race, carried over from Classic Era; Shadowmeld stacks with the class's own Stealth mechanics
Skyborne Both New race in Forever; open to Rogue on both factions

Blizzard has not yet detailed Skyborne racial abilities, so as of beta build 1.60.1.69893 the established Classic Era races above remain the better-documented picks for this class.
