The Hunter talent tree in WoW Forever joins Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, and Survival into a single 52-node tree, and Humans can now train as Hunters for the first time in the game's history. This guide reads the beta tree as of build 1.60.1.69893 and covers what a reasonable build looks like for leveling, group content, PvP, rotation, and race choice.
What changed for the class in Forever
Like every class in Forever, the Hunter now trains from one interconnected tree instead of three separate ones, which the beta data confirms directly: a single talent_tree row with 52 nodes covers all three old specializations. Blizzard's panel recap describes new race and class combinations as part of this pass, and Human Hunter is the concrete result for this class — a combination that did not exist before Forever. As of beta build 1.60.1.69893, Forever also unifies hit rating and critical strike rating from gear into single stats covering melee, ranged, and spell effects together, which is a larger stat-priority change for a ranged physical class than for most others, since ranged hit and crit no longer need separate gearing from melee.
Talent tree overview
The tree has 52 normal nodes across seven rows, as of beta build 1.60.1.69893 (the beta data also contains a couple of duplicate entries at irregular coordinates, which point at spells already covered elsewhere in the tree and look like leftover import artifacts rather than real additional nodes). The left column is Beast Mastery, running through talent #104969 (Unleashed Fury, 5 ranks) up to the capstone talent #104961 (Bestial Wrath, 1 rank), gated by talent #104964 (Intimidation). The middle column is Marksmanship-leaning, anchored by talent #105004 (Trueshot Aura, 1 rank) and talent #105002 (Mortal Shots, 5 ranks, requires Careful Aim), ending in talent #104997 (Sniper Shot, 1 rank, requires Trueshot Aura). The right column leans Survival with melee tools such as talent #104985 (Expose Prey, 2 ranks) and talent #104981 (Strider Kick, 1 rank), capped by talent #104984 (Lacerating Strikes, 1 rank, requires Expose Prey).
| Column | Identity | Row-6 gate | Capstone (row 7) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left | Beast Mastery | Intimidation | Bestial Wrath |
| Middle | Marksmanship | Trueshot Aura | Sniper Shot |
| Right | Survival | Expose Prey | Lacerating Strikes |
Leveling build
A reasonable leveling build as of beta build 1.60.1.69893 leans Beast Mastery, because a strong pet reduces downtime and lets you pull with less risk. Endurance Training (Endurance Training, 5 ranks) keeps your pet alive longer, Unleashed Fury (Unleashed Fury, 5 ranks) raises both your pet's and your own hawk-shot damage, and Lethal Attacks (Lethal Attacks, 5 ranks) is a flat critical strike chance increase available early on the left side of row two. Spirit Bond (Spirit Bond, 2 ranks) heals both you and your pet passively while the pet is out, which is a meaningful quality-of-life pick for solo leveling with no healer on hand.
Dungeon and raid builds
A single-target damage build for raids takes talent #105008 (Careful Aim, 5 ranks) for Attack Power scaling from Intellect, then talent #105002 (Mortal Shots, 5 ranks) for bigger ranged crits, and finishes at talent #105004 (Trueshot Aura) for a party-wide Ranged Attack Power buff that benefits the whole raid, not just the Hunter. talent #110861 (Predator's Edge, 5 ranks) adds melee and off-hand weapon crit damage, useful if your dungeon group values Wing Clip-adjacent melee filler during movement phases.
A pet-focused build for dungeons instead runs the full Beast Mastery column through talent #104962 (Frenzy, 5 ranks, requires Ferocity) into talent #104961 (Bestial Wrath), trading some personal burst for a pet that hits harder and survives longer. The beta data does not indicate which approach parses higher in current raid content, so this is a build choice rather than a proven ranking.
PvP build
Surefooted (Surefooted, 3 ranks) reduces the duration of movement-impairing effects and raises hit chance, both valuable against players who kite or root you. Deterrence (Deterrence, 1 rank) is a defensive cooldown that boosts Dodge and Parry on demand, and Entrapment (Entrapment, 5 ranks) roots anything that triggers your traps, which turns a Freezing Trap or Explosive Trap into a lockdown tool. Scatter Shot (Scatter Shot, 1 rank) disorients a target at close range without requiring a trap to be pre-placed, which matters when a melee attacker closes the distance before you can kite.
Rotation and priorities
Classic Hunter rotations, carried over from Classic Era, revolve around Auto Shot uptime plus instant abilities weaved between shots: keep Serpent Sting applied, fire Arcane Shot or Multi-Shot on cooldown depending on single-target versus AoE, and manage Mana or Focus-adjacent resources so Auto Shot never stops. Beast Mastery adds pet commands and Bestial Wrath as a burst window; Survival leans on trap placement and Wing Clip-style kiting.
What Forever changes for this loop: with hit and crit rating unified, a Hunter's itemization priority carried over from Classic no longer needs to separately track ranged hit alongside melee or spell hit, which simplifies gearing for the class more than for most. Mortal Shots (Mortal Shots) and Predator's Edge (Predator's Edge) both scale off critical strikes, so a higher shared crit stat from gear now benefits both your ranged rotation and any melee filler at once, something Classic Era itemization treated as two separate investments.
Best races for the class
Human Hunter is one of the six new race and class combinations Blizzard announced for Forever, and it is the headline change for this class: Human had no Hunter option before Forever. The Skyborne, a new neutral race, can also become a Hunter on either faction according to Blizzard's panel recap.
| Race | Faction | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Alliance | New in Forever; first time Humans can be Hunters |
| Skyborne | Both | New race in Forever; open to Hunter on both factions |
| Orc | Horde | Original Hunter race, carried over from Classic Era; Blood Fury adds burst outside the pet's own damage |
| Dwarf | Alliance | Original Hunter race, carried over from Classic Era |
Blizzard has not yet detailed Human or Skyborne racial abilities specific to ranged combat, so as of beta build 1.60.1.69893 these are primarily faction and identity choices rather than confirmed mechanical upgrades.
