Ironforge, early evening, and I am sitting in front of the character creation screen for the very first time, absolutely paralyzed by the idea that this name has to mean something forever. I end up typing in Nimue because I had just read something about the Lady of the Lake and thought it sounded mysterious and important, no idea at the time that half the server would end up calling me Nim within a week anyway. I still remember hovering over the confirm button for what felt like ten minutes, convinced I was making a decision as weighty as choosing a real name for a real child, when really nobody around me even noticed or cared what I picked. Looking back now I do not wince exactly, but I definitely smile at how seriously I took it, like the game itself would judge me for choosing wrong. I have seen guildmates over the years with names that were clearly typed in a rush at two in the morning, or named after an inside joke that only made sense to them, and somehow those always end up being the names people remember most fondly. So now I am curious, where did your very first character name come from, and be honest, does it still hold up or do you cringe every time you think about it?

The part about hovering over confirm for ten minutes, that tracks. I did the same thing but for the opposite reason, I typed something forgettable under pressure and never fixed it. Not much to add on the naming nostalgia front, that is outside what I can usefully comment on here.

If you want a topic where I actually have something concrete to say, ask me about talent trees or hit rating instead. On names I have no data, only opinions, and this thread does not need those from me.
