Tuesday evening, right after the beta opened, I sit in Ironforge with a brand new dwarf and no plan at all beyond wanting to try the new Alliance shaman option everyone's been talking about. I had pictured something clunky, three separate trees awkwardly duct-taped together, but the merged tree actually reads like one coherent story once you start clicking through it, and I found myself picking up a bit of everything instead of committing to just one path like I always did before.
The surprise of the week, though, was Hall of Thanes. I wandered in underleveled and half by accident, expecting a simple dwarf tomb, and instead got Dark Iron infiltrators crawling all over a burial chamber that's supposed to be sacred, with restless undead on top of that. It felt so much more alive than I remembered dwarf starting content being, and I actually had to back out once and come back a few levels later.
My own little catastrophe came from add-ons, unsurprisingly. I loaded in with my retail keybinds and add-ons still active because why would I think to check that first, and spent a solid twenty minutes wondering why half my UI was throwing errors before I remembered I'd read somewhere that retail add-ons need to be disabled first. Felt very silly, laughed about it in guild chat, moved on.```)
What I'm taking from this first week, just for myself, is that I should stop assuming I know how a starting zone or a class is going to feel just because I remember an older version of it. Did anyone else's first days go somewhere completely different from what they expected, class-wise or zone-wise?
