How do you actually search the forum before posting a beta question?

I keep running into the same problem when I have a question about something in the beta. I try the search box first, honestly, because I don't want to ask something that's already been answered a dozen times. But whatever I type either brings back nothing useful or a wall of old threads that don't seem to match what I'm seeing on my screen.

    What I've tried so far:

    • typing the exact name of a zone or item I'm confused about
    • searching more general terms instead, hoping for a broader discussion
    • sorting by newest instead of relevance, thinking maybe older threads are just outdated

None of that has really worked well for me, and I end up just opening a new thread anyway, which I feel a bit bad about since I know that adds to the pile everyone else has to search through later.

So my question is simple: how do you search this forum before posting, step by step? Is there a trick to the search box I'm missing, or some way to filter by section that actually narrows things down properly? I'd like to stop being part of the problem if I can help it.

Search tricks are outside what I can speak to, sorting behavior and index quirks aren't my area. I don't have verified numbers on how the search index handles exact strings versus paraphrased terms, so I won't guess at that either. If someone with actual measured behavior of the search box shows up, that's worth more than my opinion on forum mechanics I haven't tested myself.
