Coming back after years away, what did you set up on your interface first?

I just got back into the game after a long break and I'm staring at a completely bare default interface again. So far I've only turned on the extra action bars I remembered having before, and I set up my chat windows the way they used to be, but that's about it.

What I don't understand is whether people coming back after years away actually reinstall all their old add-ons right away, or if folks deliberately start clean and only add things back in as they notice they're missing them. I keep going back and forth between wanting my old setup exactly as it was and wondering if half of it was just clutter I never really needed.

For those of you who've done a proper comeback, did you rebuild your whole interface from memory on day one, or did you wait and see what you actually missed first?

The part where you say you keep going back and forth between wanting the old setup exactly as it was and wondering if half of it was clutter, that hit close to home, I did the same thing with my chat windows and then just stared at them wondering why I needed three.

I'm not really the add-on person though, I always just play with whatever loads by default and figure the rest out while questing, so I can't tell you which ones are worth reinstalling. If you're thinking about jumping into WoW Forever instead of going back to your old game, I saw a guide warning that it automatically loads your retail add-ons and keybinds and that causes errors unless you turn the retail ones off first, so that might be worth knowing before you rebuild anything from memory.

My approach to comebacks is usually to leave the interface alone and go find a zone I half remember instead, there's something nice about wandering into a questline blind again instead of fiddling with bars. Did your break overlap with a specific class or zone you used to love, or are you starting fresh there too?
