Zephras Isle is the level 1-12 starting zone for the Skyborne race in World of Warcraft: Forever, a flying island suspended in Skywall, the Elemental Plane of Air. It is the only zone exclusive to a single race, and out of the four new zones it is by far the most built-out in beta build 1.60.1.69893, which already lists more than two dozen named sub-areas.

Overview and level range

Warcraft Wiki lists Zephras Isle at level 1-12, matching Blizzard's panel recap, which also describes it as a "new starting experience." Beta build 1.60.1.69893 confirms this with real data: the zone's sub-areas carry exploration levels running from 0 up through 12, which lines up cleanly with a level 1-12 starting zone that gets progressively more dangerous as you move away from the capital.

How to get there

Zephras Isle is only reachable by creating a Skyborne character — Warcraft Wiki confirms the zone is exclusive to the Skyborne race, and it functions as their starting zone rather than a destination you travel to at a later level. Since the Skyborne race requires one of the paid packs covered on the release date and beta guide, Zephras Isle is effectively locked behind the same purchase.

Quest hubs and storylines

Warcraft Wiki names Valanaar as the zone's major hub, plus four minor settlements: Thendal Village, Shen'dar Village, Falaath Village, and the Shrine of Akir. Beta build 1.60.1.69893 confirms all five by exact name as sub-zones of Zephras Isle: Valanaar (Valanaar), Thendal Village (Thendal Village), Shen'dar Village (Shen'dar Village), Falaath Village (Falaath Village), and Shrine of Akir (Shrine of Akir). The build also lists more sub-areas than the wiki currently documents, including Thendal Grove (Thendal Grove), Shen'dar Highlands (Shen'dar Highlands), Windsong Lake (Windsong Lake), and Shadowgale Forest (Shadowgale Forest), which suggests the full leveling path is already laid out even where the storyline text is not yet public.

Two sub-areas stand out for lore reasons: West Pylon Watchtower (West Pylon Watchtower) and East Pylon Watchtower (East Pylon Watchtower). The Skyborne race guide covers Warcraft Wiki's account of the pylons that anchor Zephras Isle in the sky failing after the wind spirits who maintain them vanished — these two watchtowers are almost certainly where that crisis plays out as a questline, though Blizzard has not published the specific quests involved.

Beta build 1.60.1.69893 lists 27 named sub-areas under Zephras Isle in total. The table below groups every one this guide could query by its exploration level field, which is the closest thing to a progression order the database currently exposes. Read the exploration level as a rough proxy for "how far into the zone's story this area sits," not a confirmed quest-level requirement — Blizzard has not published quest-by-quest level requirements for any of these areas.

Exploration level Sub-areas
0 Thendal Grove, Thendal Village, Rise of Spirits, Skywall
3-4 Thendal Standing Stones (Thendal Standing Stones), Thendal Cave (Thendal Cave)
5 Shen'dar Highlands, Shen'dar Village
6 Windsong Lake, Falaath Village, Bandit Hideout (Bandit Hideout), Windsong Standing Stones (Windsong Standing Stones), Overlook Standing Stones (Overlook Standing Stones)
7 West Pylon Watchtower, East Pylon Watchtower
8 Gustberry Lowlands, Windfield Orchard (Windfield Orchard), Shriekling Den (Shriekling Den), Fairweather Stables (Fairweather Stables)
10 Valanaar, Valanaar Skydocks, Shrine of Akir, Rohashi Spires (Rohashi Spires), Sanctum of Storms (Sanctum of Storms), Nightclaw Cavern (Nightclaw Cavern)
12 Shadowgale Forest, Ruins of Ban'aethal (Ruins of Ban'aethal)

Names like Shriekling Den, Bandit Hideout, and Nightclaw Cavern read as combat-focused sub-areas rather than quest hubs, and Ruins of Ban'aethal at the top exploration level suggests a late-zone dungeon-like or elite area, but none of that is confirmed by Blizzard directly — it is this guide's own reading of what the names suggest.

Notable NPCs and rare mobs

Warcraft Wiki lists the zone's rulers, quest givers, and named NPCs as unknown. Beta build 1.60.1.69893 does not expose a searchable NPC-to-zone mapping either, so no specific named NPC can be confirmed as located in Zephras Isle from the database alone. What can be confirmed is that character-creation preview NPCs for the Skyborne classes already exist in the build — see the Skyborne race guide for those — even though their in-zone counterparts for the starting experience are not yet identifiable.

Dungeons and raids in the zone

Neither Blizzard's panel recap nor Warcraft Wiki lists a dungeon or raid inside Zephras Isle, and as a level 1-12 zone it would be unusual for one to exist there. No instanced content has been announced for this zone.

Resources and professions

Beta build 1.60.1.69893 contains at least one gear item tagged to the zone's hub, Valanaar Chain Gloves (Valanaar Chain Gloves), which is consistent with early-leveling gear rewards rather than a crafted item. Blizzard has not published starting-zone profession trainers or gathering nodes specific to Zephras Isle, so treat detailed profession information for this zone as not yet announced. Given its elemental, sky-island setting, players speculating about tailoring, alchemy, or enchanting reagent themes should not treat that as confirmed until Blizzard or a later beta build documents it.

New characters starting on Zephras Isle should not expect the standard Classic Era starting-zone profession trainers (mining, herbalism, skinning) to be confirmed in a specific location yet either. Since every Skyborne character funnels through this single zone regardless of the class or faction chosen at creation, whatever profession setup Blizzard builds here will apply to every Skyborne player equally — but until trainers or gathering nodes are directly verifiable in the client, treat this as an open question rather than something to plan around.
